Commemorative Event Marking the Fourth Anniversary of Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine Held in Mumbai
24 February 2026 17:33

The Consulate General of Ukraine in Mumbai, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai, held a commemorative event marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The event honoured the resilience of the Ukrainian people, reaffirmed international solidarity, and drew attention to the ongoing consequences of Russia’s aggression.

During the event, Anna Zaichenko, Acting Consul General of Ukraine, said that “the event is meant to remind the world that Ukraine’s fight for freedom continues and that freedom is never for free. We want to strengthen international solidarity, raise awareness, and ensure that the voices of Ukrainians are heard far beyond our borders.”

Sven Östberg, Consul General of Sweden, noted: “Sweden joined NATO in 2024 because this was our incentive - to support Ukraine against this illegal full-scale Russian invasion. So far, Sweden has offered military and other support to Ukraine with a total of USD 11.4 billion, and our support, like that of many other European nations, will continue.”

During the commemorative event the exhibition “The Worst Anniversary Ever” was presented. Arranged by the NGO Artists Support Ukraine (ASU) and curated by Kateryna Taylor, the exhibition brought together over 20 prints of original artworks by Ukrainian artists and illustrators created since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. In the video address to the audience, Kateryna Taylor highlighted the significance of the exhibition for delivering the right messages about the horrors of the Russian war.

The artworks demonstrated the cruel realities of wartime life. Alongside pain, loss, and exhaustion, the exhibition highlights resilience, unity, mutual support, solidarity, and care for animals in the most difficult moments, offering a creative lens through which to better understand contemporary Ukraine.

The programme of the event included a minute of silence in memory of all Ukrainians who lost their lives in the result of Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as the screening of the thematic video “Sounds of War”, produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Indian society, Ukrainian citizens residing in Mumbai, as well as representatives of business, culture, and the art.

The Consulate General of Ukraine in Mumbai expresses its sincere gratitude to Sweden for their partnership and continued support, and to all friends and guests who attended the commemorative event.
