11–14 May 2026, Mumbai hosted the annual Kimberley Process (KP) Intersessional Meeting.

Ukraine was represented at the event by Tetiana Drozdovych, Director of the State Gemological Centre of Ukraine; Liubov Abravitova, Director of the Department of Africa and Regional African Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine; and Oleksandr Polishchuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of India.

The Ukrainian delegation held a series of intensive bilateral meetings with key participants and partners, including Suchindra Mishra, Chair of the Kimberley Process; Ronnie VanderLinden, President of the World Diamond Council; and Farai Maguwu, Vice Coordinator of the Civil Society Coalition.

Particular attention was devoted to strengthening cooperation with producing countries and strategic partners. Meetings were held with the delegations of United States, Canada, United Kingdom, the European Union, Angola, Ghana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Namibia. During these meetings, the Ukrainian delegation emphasized the need to modernize the Kimberley Process.

Ukraine’s position remains unchanged: the definition of “conflict diamonds” must be expanded. Violence, human rights violations, and illicit financial flows must be blocked regardless of whether they are perpetrated by terrorist groups or by the governments of aggressor states. These are the very principles that Ukraine actively advocated during the Kimberley Process Plenary Meeting in 2025.

For Ukraine, the Kimberley Process is not only about transparent diamond trade. It is about international security, justice, and preventing natural resources from being used to fuel and finance wars.
